Latin

LATIN provides the Building Blocks of Good English.

Although English does not come directly from Latin in the same way that French, Spanish and Italian do, nevertheless nearly half of all English words come from Latin.

Celtic Britain was a part of the Roman Empire from the 1st to the 5th Century. Later, of course, in 1066, Britain was invaded by the French.

The result has been a continual infusion of Latin vocabulary that has enriched our language, culture and, in particular, our Literature, right up to the present day.
